Albert W. Ketelby: Auf Einem Persischen Markt (Recorders, Percussion)
Intermezzo-Szene bearbeitet für Flötengruppe, Metallophon und Schlagwerk von A. Rosenstengel. Diese Komposition gehöret zu seinen bekannt testen Orchesterwerken. Eine echt orientalische Atmosphäre beherrscht dieses Werk. Die Kameltreiber kommen allmählich näher, die Rufe der Bettler nach Gaben werden erhört. Die schöne Prinzessin tritt auf, von ihren Dienerinnen begleitet. Die Prinzessin bleibt stehen um sich an den Gauklern und Schlangenbeschworen zu ergötzen. Der Kalif schreitet jetzt über die Markt und unterbricht die Unterhaltung. Die Prinzessin macht sich zum Aufbruch bereit und die Karawane setzt ihre Reise fort. Die Motive der Prinzessin und der Kameltreiber hört man noch in der Ferne und der Marktplatz wird wieder einsam.

Peter Maxwell Davies: Three Studies For Percussion (Score)
This is effectively a work in three movements - Allegro, Andante cantabile and Presto - which Davies likens to 'three obstacle courses, bristling with technical difficulties'. However, as he goes on to say, 'young people are naturally gifted with extraordinary rhythmic skills which normally remain untapped'. Given the opportunity, older children have here the material for a highly arresting piece of music-making. Scoring also includes a small wood block, a small temple block and a small suspended cymbal. The xylophones are one each of the following: concert, soprano, alto and bass. The two glockenspiels are soprano and alto and the metallophones are bass and deep bass (a vibraphone may be used instead of the latter).
These studies will provide a challenge to all percussionists, for whom there is a distinct shortage of suitable studies. Duration c. 5mins.

Philip Wilby: Concerto For Percussion
This version for solo percussion and piano, was made by the composer in 1997. It differs significantly from the original version in that the number of percussion instruments is smaller, the composer has provided a shortened version of the Cadenza for performance with piano.
The original orchestral version of the Concerto is available on hire from the publishers.

Kevin Volans: Akrodha For Solo Percussion
Commissioned by the Swedish Concert Institute. The title of this work - Akrodha - is a Sanskrit word meaning "Freedom from Anger". The piece was written without any conscious system whatsoever and consists of two movements, to both of which the title applies: the first being in a state of high energy and the second being in a state of lower energy. The work lasts approximately 26 minutes and is dedicated to the soloist, Jonny Axelsson.
